HERSTORY

Chere* Thomas McNair, a native of Kinston, NC, was beloved by her family and friends. She was bright, jovial, and an engaged student. She was also a Sickle Cell Warrior. While battling this illness as an undergraduate at North Carolina Central University, she worked in Juvenile Court counseling and graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice. Her illness did not define her, yet she deeply identified with young people who faced similar health challenges. Her field of study and the young people she met while working for Durham County Courthouse also left a lasting impression on her. After graduating, she emerged as a passionate advocate for juvenile offenders and formerly incarcerated youth.

In 2009, Chere transitioned due to complications with Sickle Cell and Thalassemia.

Her legacy lives on!
